Ben on: Obergefell v. Hodges.

America has finally done something good. At least for her people. The supreme court have essentially legalised gay marriage, in an act of Judicial activism, not dissimilar to that of the Warren court, during the Civil Rights era. I should say this first. Congratulations, America. It is a move in the right direction.

But I do have concerns from stuff I have seen. While I congratulate Americans for this, I personally don’t think it is gonna change anytime soon. Do we remember the verdict of Brown vs. Topeka? Schools were desegregated. But by the end of the 60’s, 2/3 states has not desegregated schools, and we remember the little rock nine, don’t we? My point is, its a step, but Its gonna take years for all of America to make gay marriage legal everywhere. And discrimination will likely not stop either! Already, I have heard about Mississipi stopping all marriage liscenes from being distributed. And various counties in the bible belt states have also said they’re not going to accept it.

Some people have even said they’re gonna divorce, burn themselves alive, and move to Canada. Where gay marriage has been legal for 10 years. This is to all the people, who are bent out of shape after the supreme court ruled in favour of Same Sex Marriage:

  • Do you get angry when people get divorced?
  • Do you get angry when a woman has a baby out of wedlock?
  • Do you even get angry when a heterosexual couple decide to live together, as a couple, and not as man and wife, engaging in pre-marital sex?

If your answer to those 3 rhetorical questions are ‘No I don’t’ then you should support gay marriage.Would you rather keep the tradition of holy matrimony, rather than let it die out? In fact, let me bring the bible into this. Leviticus 19:19 reads, “You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together. I assume all of you have worn cotton shirts with polyester…And you still get angry about gay marriage?

These days, the bible isn’t one big definitive book anymore. NRM’s, NAM’s, Cults, Denominations, many of whom are deviations from the original Catholic and Jewish Churches. And there’s a ton of bible transalations! I don’t even know how many different translations there are. Different churches follow different bibles, so for people to say that ‘Homosexuality is a sin, because it says so in the bible’ is just stupid. You can’t argue that anymore. Just celebrate that marriage will still happen. In fact, I think the church will fare better, by letting more people have the opportunity of marriage. For me, that is more important than a verse in the bible. Let the tradition continue, in a new way. Celebrate that. Celebrate that the church is still around, and that people will get married forever more.

Thank you for reading my post today. I assure you, this topic is likely to cause some controversy amongst some people. Im prepared for many messages from people who are against my POV. But listen, this is my blog. It’s in the name, this is my opinion. If you disagree, write a rebuttal. I’ll read it. Likely tear into it, but I will read it. This topic is bound to be in the news for a while, so all I say is sit tight, and talk, debate, and share your views on this landmark court case.
